Break Rich Media Specifications

General Guidelines to All Rich Media Units

The following standard units on our site accept rich media:

  • 160 × 600 wide skyscraper
  • 300 × 250 medium rectangle
  • 728 × 90 bottom leaderboard

File Size: Break can accept 35k for the polite download file and 100k for the total download file.

Ads must adhere to specifications outlined below. Failure to meet certain specifications may result in delays.

FLASH
Break only accepts Flash Versions 5 through 8. All FLASH banners require a clickTAG. For ALL Flash banners a clickTAG command on the button layer is required as shown below:

  • Break will pass the click through url. If the above code is not used the clickthrough will not work.
  • The clickTAG button should be on the topmost layer.
  • All flash ads require a backup .jpg or .gif

EXPANSION

  • Expandable Units
    300 × 250
    160 × 600

The ad unit will expand upon:

  • Mouse Over / Mouse Off: When the user passes a mouse over the
    creative, the panel expands; the panel retracts when the mouse is
    removed
  • Click Open / Click Close: The creative can also be set to expand with
    User Click; the panel retracts when the mouse is removed or with a
    second User Click.

300 × 250 Meduim Rectangle Expansion Specs

  • Expansion of 300×250 units cannot run on video content detail pages
  • Expand left
  • Initial width/height: 300×250
  • Full expanded width/height: 600×250

160 × 600 Wide Skyscraper Expansion Specs

  • Expansion of 160×600 unit is only accepted on Break’s Gamebreak placement.
  • Expand right
  • Initial width/height: 160×600
  • Panel width/height: 300×600
  • Full expanded width/height: 460×600

POLITE ADS
Polite ads must be broken down into three files:

  • The alternative image (either GIF or JPG), with a 20k maximum.
  • The Polite portion of the ad will load after the rest of the Break page
    finishes loading.

IN-STREAMING UNITS
In-Streaming Banner Units –

  • 160 × 600
  • 300 × 250
  • 728 × 90

Video

  • Video stream may be a maximum of 1mb.
  • There are no frequency caps on the video portion of banners containing streaming video; the video can play every time the user sees the banner.
  • The User Click can activate progressive download streaming.
  • There is a 30 second maximum on video stream length.
  • Looping: To ensure the optimum user experience, Break requests that ads may only loop a maximum of 3 times.
  • Play, Stop/Pause, and Mute buttons are preferred
  • Stop/Mute and Start buttons are required.
  • Replay button is optional.
  • Back up image required, max 20k.

Audio

  • Audio in the unit can only be initiated upon click
  • There is a 30 second maximum on audio served in conjunction with a video
    stream.
  • Audio served independent of a video stream may be 15 or 30 seconds.
